SPTC Owed P2.4m In Service Levy

Selebi-Phikwe Town Council’s principal housing officer Cecilia Mbanga has revealed that the council is owed P2.4 Million in service levy.

She made the disclosure after informing industrial class employees about the new SHHA scheme.
Mbanga said there have been changes in the scheme. “The new SHHA loan has been increased from P20, 000 to P45, 000 payable in 20 years without interest. You no longer have to pay 10 percent interest like before. You will be paying the loan in installment and interest will only accumulate if you default,” she said.

Mbanga explained that the loan is not meant to build a new house but to assist in finishing one. She pointed out that at SHHA they encourage the spirit of self-reliance.

She said those who do not have completed houses but own plots are encouraged to opt for the turn-key programme. She explained that under turn-key, the council builds a P60, 000 house which its gives to the client.

Mbanga encouraged council staff to take up SHHA loans, saying accommodation is very important. She also mentioned that at the moment they are experiencing problems with their computer system and she hopes things will be back to normal this month.

She said SHHA is also available in rural areas and people must be aware that there is no top-up and they must clear the existing loans to qualify. The new scheme has got a standard plan that will be used for the turn-key programme. She also encourages staff to pay their installments using stop-orders.
